Mis principales intereses de investigación son en filosofía del lenguaje, aunque también tengo intereses en la filosofía de la mente y de la ciencia cognitive. Mucho de mi trabajo concierne a la supuesta composicionalidad del lenguaje y el pensamiento: Si, como la evidencia sugiere, ni el pensamiento ni el lenguaje son composicionales de la forma que Frege propuso, entonces ¿qué es el pensamiento y cómo es possible la comunicación? He sido investigador en el IIF de la UNAM desde 2007. Antes de venire a México era profesor en el departamento de filosofía de la Illinois Wesleyan University, donde obtuve la definitividad en 2004. Recibí mi doctorado del MIT en 1994, y mi licenciatura de Wisconsin en 1988. Disfruto jugar con mi hija Maia, y correr carreras de bicicleta.

My primary research interests are in the philosophy of language, though I also have interests in the philosophy of mind, and the philosophy of cognitive science. Much of my work concerns the alleged compositionality of language and thought: If, as the evidence strongly suggests, neither language nor thought are compositional in the way Frege proposed, then what is thought and how is communication possible? I have been an investigador at the IIF at UNAM since 2007. Before coming to Mexico I was a professor in the philosophy department at Illinois Wesleyan University, where I was granted tenure in 2004. I received my Ph.D. from MIT in 1994, and my BA from Wisconsin in 1988. I enjoy goofing off with my daughter Maia, and riding bikes.
